The University of Hawaii at Hilo sophomore won all five games she appeared in on the week allowing no runs, 11 hits and just eight walks over 28.2 innings of work, as the Vulcans finished the week with a perfect 8-0 record. She limited her opponents to a miniscule .118 batting average on the week, while striking out 31 of them.
The sophomore from Kahuluu, Hawaii, tossed a no-hitter against Dominican (CA), a one-hitter vs. Dominican (CA) and a two-hitter against Notre Dame De Namur. Waracka notched four complete game shutouts last week and finished with a 0.00 ERA.
The University of Hawaii at Hilo struck quickly and fizzled just as fast as they split a Pacific West Conference doubleheader with the Academy of Art University on the UHH softball field.
The Vulcans won the first game 3-0 and fell 2-1 in the second game. The Vulcans are 19-6 overall and 15-5 in the PacWest while the Urban Knights are 12-12-1 overall and 3-5 in the PacWest.
Bryanna Hardy started the Vulcan assault with a first-inning single then scored when Aisha Sueda’s line drive got past the rightfielder.
In the next inning, Kanani Numata followed Nicole Alconcel’s walk with a run scoring double. Dana Lee followed with the RBI single. The three runs on three hits in two innings seemed promising but the Vulcans slowed down and collected just three more hits.
Sierra Green lead-off the second game with a triple then scored on Numata’s single. From then on, the Vulcans would be held to just two check-swing infield singles.
“Our pitchers and defense are going to keep us in the game,” said UHH head coach Gwen Kagaoan. “If we struggle at the plate, there is no way we’re going to win a game.
“I’m looking to see what adjustments we need to make to fire up this team. Our challenge is to get our girls to hit the ball on the ground rather than popping it up. It’s 99 percent an out if we pop it up but we give the defense a 50-50 shot at getting us out if we put the ball on the ground.”
Amber Waracka picked up her 12th win of the season with a 6-hit, 5-strikeout complete game.
Christina Pedroza took the loss in second game in relief. She gave up just one run on two hits while striking out three.

The University of Hawaii at Hilo opened a four-game Pacific West Conference series with a doubleheader sweep of the Academy of Art University on the UHH softball field.
Game scores were 6-1 and 4-1. The Vulcans improved to 18-5 overall and 14-4 in the PacWest while the Urban Knights are 11-11-1 overall and 2-4 in the PacWest.
The Vulcans struggled to find some offense in the series opener. Kanani Numata’s single was the only mark on the Urban Knight’s pitcher Sierrah Garcia’s stat sheet for five full innings. But in the sixth, the Vulcans erupted for six runs on five hits with Tessa Truong’s 3-run homerun capping the inning.
“This team has a lot of heart and a never say die type of attitude,” UHH head coach Gwen Kagaoan said. “We made a couple of changes in the sixth inning and they rode on that momentum.”
Amber Waracka tallied her 11th win of the season with the 7-hit, 5-strikeout complete game.
The Vulcans scored quickly and consistently in the second game. After Aisha Sueda’s first-inning RBI single, Nicole Alconcel added a solo home run in the fourth. Bryanna Hardy picked an RBI in the fifth while Asha Prithvirag tripled in a run in the sixth.
Hardy and Alconcel paired hits for the Vulcans in the second game.
Christina Pedroza improved her record to 4-2 with the 6-hit, 4-strikeout complete game.

Amber Waracka continues to plow down opponents as the sophomore pitcher picked up two more victories as the University of Hawaii at Hilo swept Notre Dame de Namur University, 4-0 and 3-2, in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader on the UHH softball field.
The Vulcans improved to 16-5 overall and 12-4 in the PacWest while the Argonauts are 4-14 overall and 2-8 in the PacWest.
After starting the season off with at 2-1 record, the reigning PacWest Pitcher of the Week has gone undefeated and improved her record to 9-1 with a 1.36 ERA. She has held opponents to a .196 batting average while striking out 63 over 77.1 innings. She also hasn’t given up many freebies as she has walked just 22 batters, hit one and has yet to uncork a wild pitch.
In the first game, Waracka tossed a complete-game 2-hit shutout with five strikeouts. She came in relief in the second game and pitched 3.2 innings giving up a pair of hits and striking out four.
The Vulcans capitalized on Argonaut errors in the first game with a pair of 2-run, 3-hit, 1-error innings in the first game. Amanda Tellez, Aisha Sueda and Dana Lee paired hits for the Vulcans.
Sueda’s 7th-inning double sent the second game into extra innings where Kanani Numata’s 9th-inning triple set the stage for the Vulcans second game. With Numata ready to score, Jessica Schatz shot to third base was mishandled and scored the game winner.

After a slow start the University of Hawaii at Hilo pulled out a sweep of Notre Dame de Namur University in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader on the UHH softball field.
Game scores were 1-0 and 8-0 (TKO).
The Vulcans improved to 14-5 overall and 10-4 in the PacWest while the Argonauts are 4-12 overall and 2-6 in the PacWest.
The first game started out as basic Vulcan softball with lead-off batter Sierra Green getting to on base this time after being hit by a pitch. Amanda Tellez moved her to second on a ground out. After a wild pitch, Green scored on Bryanna Hardy’s single.
Following that opening the Vulcans went on to strand 11 base runners while collecting just four more hits. Both Green and Aisha Sueda collected two hits each.
Fortunately, Amber Waracka had her game going as the sophomore struck out eight batters while giving up five hits and two walks.
In the second game, a 4-run, 6-hit fourth ended a string of three consecutive three-up, three-down innings.
The flow continued into the fifth inning as Hardy added an RBI double and 8Kanani Numata* hit here sixth homerun of the season to give the Vulcans a 7-0 lead.
The game ended on Hardy’s bases-loaded single in the sixth.
Tellez, Hardy and Numata paired hits for the Vulcans while Christina Pedroza allowed just two batters to reach base. She gave up two hits and struck out four.

Amber Waracka posted a 3-0 record with a 0.84 ERA in earning Pacific West Conference Pitcher of the Week honors.
The sophomore from Kahuluu, Hawaii tossed two complete games in three starts and four appearances, pitched one shutout, threw 21.1 innings of work, allowing just two earned runs while striking out 13 batters and permitted a .205 batting average.
Nicole Alconcel was recognized in the Top 10 Honor Roll.
Dominating pitching performances and dangerous offensive performances delivered the University of Hawaii at Hilo another pair of 8-0 TKO wins over Dominican University in Pacific West Conference games on the UHH softball field.
The Vulcans improve to 12-5 overall and 8-4 in the PacWest while the Lady Penguins are 1-7 overall and 1-5 in the PacWest.
The Vulcans pounded out 21 hits over the two games and produced 12 RBI yet still stranded 16 batters.
“I like to do a lot of bunting and running,” said UHH head coach Gwen Kagaoan. “We did that very well this four-game series. We pushed runners to scoring positions and were able to capitalize on that. The girls were very focused and our goal was to get timely hits which we did at times.”
Dana Lee led the team in the first game with three singles while Nicole Alconcel and Sierra Green collected two hits each. Alconcel delivered a 2-run homerun.
In the second game, Brittany Spencer collected three hits while Alconcel, Bryanna Hardy and Aisha Sueda paired hits. Hardy also had four RBI.
Both Amber Waracka and Christina Pedroza tossed one-hitters with Waracka striking out six in game one and Pedroza tallying three in game two.
“The pitchers were hitting their spots,” said Kagaoan. “Their number one job is to induce the ground balls and flyouts and that’s what they did.
“We’re very sound defensively, and with everything working together and our pitching we’re going to be tough to beat.”

The University of Hawaii at Hilo delivered early knockout blows as they TKOed Dominican University twice in a Pacific West Conference doubleheader on the UHH Softball Field.
With the 8-0 and 14-0 victories, the Vulcans improved to 10-5 overall and 6-4 in the PacWest while the Lady Penguins are 1-6 overall and 1-3 in the PacWest.
Amber Waracka tossed a no-hitter in the shortened first game and allowed only one runner to reach base. She struckout eight over the five innings while walking one.
Sierra Green and Kanani Numata led the way with three hits each while Nicole Alconcel added two hits and a pair of RBI.
The Vulcans racked up 13 hits in the second game with Alconcel and Green picking up three hits each. Amanda Tellez and Aisha Sueda added two hits each while Tellez picked up a homerun and four RBI while Sueda had two RBI. Numata added a homerun.
Christina Pedroza got the start in the second game and gave up two hits and two walks over five innings while striking out two.
“The team did very well hitting from the get go,” said UHH head coach Gwen Kagaoan. “Christina’s outing was very encouraging for us.
“Hopefully she can build on this and do her job tomorrow. She’s been struggling and this outing is definitely a confidence builder for her.”

The University of Hawaii at Hilo didn’t hit much but they made the one’s they got count as they beat Chaminade University 6-4 in a Pacific West Conference game on the Central Oahu Regional Park on Oahu.
Trailing 2-0, the Vulcans took the lead on Sierra Green’s bases-loaded triple. Amanda Tellez followed with a single to give the Vulcans a 4-2 lead.
In the sixth, Bryanna Hardy hit a two-run double to left center.
Green collected two of the Vulcans six hits in the game.
Sarah Weisslopf started and gave up eight hits and four runs over 3.0 innings. Amber Waracka entered the game in the fourth and struck out five while giving up a hit and a walk.

Nine days on the road caught up with the University of Hawaii at Hilo softball team as they dropped a Pacific West Conference doubleheader to Grand Canyon University, 2-0 and 15-3, at Stapleton-Pierson Field in Phoenix, Ariz.
The Vulcans return home at 5-4 overall and 1-3 in the PacWest while the Antelopes are 10-1 overall and 3-1 in the PacWest.
“We committed too many errors today,” said UHH head coach Gwen Kagaoan. “We just didn’t hit and our pitching just wasn’t there.”
Amber Waracka (2-1) went the distance in game one tossing a five-hitter and striking out two. At the plate Sierra Green’s pair of singles was the team’s only offense and raised her team-leading batting average to .619 over eight games.
The Vulcans committed three errors in both games with only one leading to an unearned run.
The entire pitching staff saw action in the second game with Sarah Weisskopf giving up eight runs on eight hits over 2.1 innings. Waracka took the mound for a pair of innings and gave up seven runs on nine hits and three walks. Christina Pedroza got the final two outs without allowing a batter to reach base.
The Vulcans mustered six hits in the game with no one pairing hits.

Sarah Weisskopf picked up her third win of the season with a 6-hit, 5-strikeout performance in a 9-3 win over Grand Canyon University in the first game of a Pacific West Conference doubleheader in Phoenix, Ariz.
The Vulcans (5-2 overall, 1-1 in the PacWest) dropped the second game 8-1.
The senior right hander faced 29 batters over seven innings in which she issued a pair of walks.
Sierra Green led the way with a 3-for-3 game at the plate while Aisha Sueda and Bryanna Hardy added two hits and two RBI each.
The Vulcans jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead on a 2-run single by Sueda and an RBI single by Nicole Alconcel then generated three more runs in the fourth.
Hardy opened the sixth with a single, stole second, got to third on a sacrifice then scored on Amanda Tellez’ single.
With runners on second and third, Hardy singled to pick up two RBI in the seventh.
The Antelopes (8-1, 1-1) jumped out in the second game with a six-run first inning behind a pair of walks, a hit batter, an error and two hits.
The Vulcans got one back in third on Kanani Numata’s RBI single.
Green picked up another multiple-hit game with two hits.
The University of Hawaii at Hilo went 1-1 in the second day of the Desert Stinger in Las Vegas losing to St. Martin’s College 5-3 then coming back to beat host Montana State University-Billings 8-3 Saturday (Feb 13).
The Vulcans are now 3-1.
The Vulcans couldn’t take advantage of nine walks as they stranded 12 baserunners against St. Martin’s.
Kanani Numata had two of the team’s four hits.
Christina Pedroza recorded eight strikeouts but allowed 10 hits in giving up four earned runs.
Their bats woke up in the second game as they battered the Yellowjackets for 12 hits. Sierra Green was 4 for 5 with an RBI while Tessa Truong, Bryanna Hardy and Amanda Tellez added two hits each. Numata picked up a homerun.
Sarah Weisskopf picked up her second win of the year with a 7-hit performance.
