Updated: UH-Hilo Spring Soccer Camp in Kona CANCELLED

UPDATED MEDIA RELEASE (2/23/10)

We apologize but have to CANCEL our camp in Kona on March 12-14th. The fields were double-booked with AYSO and obviously we do not want to interfere with already scheduled games or leagues.

At this point in time we are unable to secure the fields and/or staffing for an appropriate week/weekend of camp. We are looking at doing one-day clinics if possible during the spring that do not interfere with AYSO or HYSA and will let you know if anything come about.

Please contact me if you have any questions either by email or on my cell (516-404-4475).

Thank you for your understanding,

Brian Suskiewicz

Hawaii Prep girl’s soccer coach Steve Perry said, “I was real pleased how our girls kept composed today and kept applying pressure on the Honokaa defense. Katie Case and Emily Evans did a great job in the middle of the field controlling the ball all game long and Noe Enos and Ku’uipo Nakoa played their best game working together up front.

It was nice to get everyone into the game in the 2nd half as the entire team has been working very hard in practice this week.

The girls wanted to keep their position with the standings in the west before the play-offs start. Getting the top seed in the west was one of our team goals … now we go onto our next goals.”

Marc Miranda hired as UH-Hilo women’s soccer coach

MEDIA RELEASE

The University of Hawai‘i at Hilo Women’s Soccer team has named Marc Miranda as head coach UHH athletic director Dexter Irvin announced today.

Miranda spent the past five years seasons as the head coach at Mid-Pacific Insititute on Oahu. He comes from a soccer coaching pedigree as his father Maurice Miranda is one of the longest tenured coaches in the Big Island Interscholastic Federation at Honokaa High School as the head boy’s soccer coach.

“I’m excited about the upcoming season and the opportunity to build upon a solid foundation,” Miranda said. “We are a program on the rise and in the coming years we plan on making noise on a nation wide basis.”

Miranda was the head coach at Mid-Pacific Institute from 2004 -2009 compiling 27 wins and 26 loses and 4 draws in the competitive Interscholastic of League of Honolulu. Miranda placed eight players on the All-State Tourney team and tourney’s Most Valuable Player in 2007.

In addition, Miranda has been apart of the American Youth Soccer Organization for over 20 years as player, coach and official.

A graduate of Saint Joseph High School (Hilo, Hawai‘i), he led the Cardinals to three consecutive BIIF playoff births and collected the 1997 BIIF co-Player of the Year award. Miranda was also a member of the Hawaii State Olympic Development Team from 1995-1997. He followed that up with a collegiate career at Missouri Valley College in Marshall, Mo., where he was a team captain and four year starter in defense.

Miranda also served as a volunteer coach at Chaminade University and was the lead assistant coach for the UH Hilo men’s squad in the 2007 season.

Vikings sweep the Cardinals in soccer

Story and Photography by Rick Ogata | Special to Hawaii 24/7

In BIIF girls soccer action the visiting St. Joseph Lady Cardinals ran into an overpowering Hilo High Viking team. With a high octane offense, Hilo controlled the ball on its own side of the field while keeping the St. Joseph team from mustering any offense of its own. Hilo was able to score three points in each half while keeping St. Joseph scoreless for both halves. In a earlier boys game Hilo defeated St. Joseph in a 9-0 TKO match.

Game 1 (Boys)
St. Joseph 0 0 - 0
      Hilo 7 2 - 9

Game 2 (Girls)
St. Joseph 0 0 - 0
      Hilo 3 3 - 6

UH-Hilo looking for a women’s soccer coach

UH-Hilo looking for a women’s soccer coach

MEDIA RELEASE

University of Hawaii at Hilo women’s soccer coach Cam Camarena has stepped down but will remain the head coach of the men’s team announced UHH athletic director Dexter Irvin.

“Cam and his coaching staff did a commendable job of developing two competitive teams this year,” Irvin said. “We appreciate all their efforts in recruiting and developing outstanding student/athletes on both teams as well as facing all the challenges running that presented themselves.

“However, we’ve got to look out for what would be more beneficial for the overall athletic program. One coach cannot give two fall teams the attention they need to become competitive in the conference or region.”

The women’s team finished seventh in the conference with a 3-8-3 record and were 4-12-4 overall. The men were fourth in the PacWest with a 9-5 record and were 10-10 overall..

UHH participates in the 9-member Pacific West Conference which includes Academy of Art University (Calif.), Brigham Young University-Hawaii, Chaminade University, Dixie State College (Utah) Dominican University (Calif.), Grand Canyon University (Ariz.), Hawaii Pacific University and Notre Dame de Namur University (Calif.).
