Former UH-Hilo basketball guard John Smith lands in Germany

MEDIA RELEASE

Former University of Hawaii at Hilo guard John Smith has signed on as a comboguard at 1. Regionalliga North club SSV Lokomotive Bernau (Germany).

Smith averaged 16.3 points and 3.1 assists per game last season while shooting 36% from 3-point range and was a first-team all-Pacific West Conference selection.
Smith will replace Ryan Williams who led Bernau in scoring last season with 24.9 ppg.

“We looked at a lot of players and in the end John offered the best overall package for us,” said head coach Torsten Schierenbeck. “He is a good shooter, can defend and has a great personality.”

Information for this release was provided by former Vulcan basketball player Daniel Poerschke.
