MEDIA RELEASE
The next Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce’s Kuleana Green Business Workshop and Pau Hana is 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, June 10 at the Gateway Energy Center at NELHA.
The topic will be “An Introduction to the Natural Step Sustainability Framework.”
The Kuleana Program, in conjunction with the county Department of Research & Development, welcomes senior sustainability consultants Sarah Brooks and Mike Purcell from The Natural Step Canada as speakers.
The Natural Step is a global framework for building a strategic approach to sustainability to mitigate risk, capture opportunity and build resilient, economically viable businesses, organizations and communities.
Brooks has a Masters degree in “Strategic Leadership towards Sustainability” and has consulted with businesses and communities about sustainability issues for 11 years.
Purcell has the same Masters degree, was the general manager of Planning and Development Services to lead the Comprehensive Sustainability Plan for Whistler, BC, and has also consulted for numerous corporations and municipalities.
Attendees will get a glimpse of a systematic approach to evaluate current programs, operations and policies using fundamental principles of sustainability.
They will learn how the Natural Step framework serves as a context for decision-making in order to prioritize the most strategic actions or initiatives to be taken in the short-, medium-, and long-term.
The Kona-Kohala Chamber of Commerce Kuleana Green Business Program is the first program in the state that promotes ethical and socially responsible business practices and environmental stewardship among every sector of the local economy.
